Recycled fleeces

The impact of recycling plastic bottles

On average, each PCR fleece garment made by Patagonia uses 25 two-litre drinks bottles that might otherwise end up in landfill sites.

3,700 two-litre bottles provide enough material to make about 150 Synchilla Snap-Ts (a long-sleeved, general-purpose fleece).

For every 3,700 bottles recycled, a barrel of oil (42 gallons) is saved and about half a ton of toxic air emissions is avoided. Worldwide 3 billion bottles and containers could be recycled annually. The amount of petroleum that could be saved by using PCR bottles instead of virgin materials in the manufacturing process would be enough to power a city the size of Birmingham for a year.
