Organic dairy farming

Today, milk is the largest single organic product in the UK. OMSCo has grown from a small, local co-operative, to the UK's leading organic milk marketing organisation, representing about 65% of UK organic milk production.

Cows are fed on grain crops as well as grass. For organic cows, this feed must be produced to strict organic standards:

As a result of the growth in organic milk production, more and more arable farms that produce winter feeds and feed supplements are becoming organic.

Organic dairy farming reduces the conventional pressures on cows to produce ever-higher yields of milk, resulting in a less stressful existence for the animals.
