Community radio production

How is Radio Darmstadt financed?

Local law in Hesse - the German state where Darmstadt is located - allows people to set up their own community radio stations and make their own programmes. However, the stations are not allowed to make a profit or broadcast any advertising. So how do people raise the money to run their own radio station?

This money from fees, grants and donations is used to pay for equipment and the day-to-day running of Radio Darmstadt. The station is run by volunteers, who are happy to work for nothing in exchange for the chance to be involved in making radio programmes.
